Singapore on Thursday announced relaxation in several COVID-19 restrictions as the Omicron wave has started to recede. The country has lifted most of the restrictions for fully vaccinated foreign visitors and also removed the mandatory wearing of masks in several outdoor places.

Though Singapore was one of the first countries to shift to a strategy of living with COVID-19, it had to impose some COVID-19 restrictions due to the increase in cases of the Omicron variant, which had its peak in February with around 26,000 cases. Mostly, the cases were mild or asymptomatic.

As on Wednesday, infections subsided and fell to about 9,000. About 92% of Singapore’s citizens have been fully vaccinated while around 71% have received a booster dose. (Reuters, March 24, 2022)
